Excel 2016: double-clicking on a file opens two Excel windows

Since I have upgraded from Office 2013 to Office 2016 (from Office 365 Home), I get the following behavior in Excel:

If I double-click on a [shortcut to a] file, Excel starts with two Windows open:

one with the requested document
one blank window with no document loaded

Any clue?

Do you have a Personal.xlsb somewhere?

No. I've never used that.

Do you have a Personal.xlsb somewhere? If you open VBA window, then Personal.xlsb should be listed there. If yes, look into the reply of Luiz Garrido.

Vijay,

Are you aware of any progress on this matter. I just installed Office 2016 and I'm getting blank files opened when opening from Windows Explorer; not if I open from within Excel.

I have no files in XLSTART.

I've tried with preview pane enabled/disabled/etc and no change in behavior.

Not sure how to apply your Option 3 as that would seem to preclude opening a file from Explorer.

the MSKB articles did not seem to apply.

It is very annoying.
