This is Bryan from the Office team. We are extremely sorry to learn that some of you are running into an issue with Office after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 where some of your Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents are failing to open with various error messages, such as:

On Monday, a fix went out to all Office 2013 Click-to-Run users that fixed the Protected View issue that was preventing some files from opening. For those users, the Office applications would launch and even creating new documents worked fine; however, opening some files resulted in various error messages like above. If you haven't already been prompted to install the August update, you can manually trigger by going into an Office application like Word, then select File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
There are other known issues that could also cause similar error messages, but those are not related to the specific Protected View issue. Teams are working hard to determine the root cause and resolve those issues. For instance, if you are running Windows 10 and Office is running in Windows compatibility mode for a prior version, you likely will also experience issues.

I did a full restore back to my Windows 7. I was so frustrated with the windows 10. I will never try that free offer again. I hate being a guinee pig. Never again. I will wait till I am sure they have all the bugs worked out. Not just a patch. I want a full fuctional program net time.
Did you downgrade? Did it solve your issue? I am thinking of doing so as well, at least until they figure out their glitch.

I am so glad someone is addressing this unfortunate issue, hopefully we'll get some resolvement soon I am pissed because it has me at a stand still just because I took advantage of the free upgrade.
Following these steps hasn't helped me. I cannot access any of my purchased Office 2013 programs (excel, powerpoint, or Word). I upgraded my Surface Pro 2 from Windows 8 to Windows 10 this morning and was excited to see this new version, but realized my office products weren't working. I have been working on this issue for over 12 hours now and still haven't figured it out.
I used the "quick fix" option to uninstall office, and reinstall, which didn't work.
I used the full uninstall, which didn't work either.
I still get the error 0-3 or 3-4. I've turned off the firewall and antivirus protection, but this still did nothing.
It seems that there is a very serious problem with Windows 10. I feel a little cheated to have received a "free" Windows 10 download only to be seriously inconvenienced with this happening.
I have found that I can still use powerpoint, word and excel online via OneDrive, which is working for now, but I still cannot access these in an offline mode on my Surface Pro 2.
Will there be an upgrade that allows some sort of bypass or fixes the bug with Office?
