Why add Feedback when none of the software ever do anything about! Microsoft - prove me wrong. I dare you.
I continually find that software upgrades give you features you don't want or need, add more steps (not less) to functionality, and take away features that were useful.
Hi Ed:
says it has 600 million Windows users, somewhat less Office users. That many people generate a LOT of feedback.
Actually, I have seen several examples where the feedback in UserVoices has been acted on:
UserVoice submissions I’ve Followed that have been acted on.
Pin pinning recent files no longer sorts alphabetically

I was looking for some indication that Microsoft actually sanctions the Uservoice website.
*************************
Performing a who-is on Uservoice shows that it’s administered by CloudFlare. Wikipedia’s description of Cloudflare does not mention Microsoft, so apparently Microsoft contracted Cloudfare to handle all the incoming feedback.
That being said, MS does have it's own adjenda on the suggestions it accepts. For example, the Excel developers did act on complaints about the switch to alpha sort order in the Recent pane, but Word developers have not.
On the other hand the most common suggestion I've seen is a request to bring 2010 Picture Manger back. By now I've seen about a thousand people as for it. MS is not going to bring it back, they have the "new & improved" Photos that they are pushing.
Selling software is very much an exercise in marketing. Take "Office". Before "Office", MS wasn't even an also-ran. Back in the 1980's WordPerfect had 97% of the market share. Lotus 1-2-3 created the spreadsheets from the ground up. Actually, Lotus 1-2-3 is what drove and created the whole "Personal Computer" in business vs IBM Mainframe computers. PC's allowed business people to play with their data, while Mainframe changes took months to get through the "IT" development process. MS had "DOS" (which they bought from someone else and resold, "marketing"), and in the mid 80's they started Windows (which was a nightmare) and not much else. That is until some genius in marketing (may he be cursed forever) came up with the "Office" concept. "Bundle" the key programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and sell the bundle for the same price as the competition was selling each of the market leading programs. So what if they were market leaders, the "bean-counters" (accountants) in every business stood up and cheered and ordered the business to switch to MS Office. 3 for the price of 1 was simple good business.
When it comes to features in individual programs, they are also very much marketing driven. The marketing group finds what features the competition has and insists that they be added to Office programs. Office programmers and marketing think of new stuff and add it. But don't forget, they are planning these new features often 3 - 4 years in advance. For example, when Office 2016 was released in Sept 2015, MS was already a year or two into the development of "Office 2019" which they have announced to be released this year. The same goes for Windows. I recently read that Windows 10 is estimated to have 60 million lines of code. If you have had experience with a Windows bug, you have first hand experience in how complex it is to make changes to a code base that huge.
Am I a MS fanboi and apologist? Not really. I am a programmer who has worked on systems with similar size (definitely not the complexity part).
I can't pin folders in the "Open" tab of the program itself (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
I can pin files, but not folders.
It is an "improvement" made by MS to Office 2016.
Complain to MS by using the feedback command
How do I give feedback on Microsoft Office for Windows / Mac / iOS / Android / Office Online
Go to the next page. Click on the device type you are using (Win, Mac, etc) to see specific instructions on how to submit feedback to MS). Win and Online via Feedback command, the other Os’s via links you can click on to the appropriate locations.
The UserVoice column is for “Bug Reports” and new feature requests. The Answers column is for asking “How to …” questions.
NOTE: BEFORE entering your feedback, Especially when you have crash problems or driver problems where you are willing to share confirguration information from your system, click on the link to “go to diagnostic and usage data settings”. This takes you to the settings dialog for “Feedback & Diagnostics”. This dialog allows you to specify “Basic” or “Full”. Pesonally I prefer basic most of the time. But when it is display or driver issues it would be a good idea to set it to “FULL”.
Note: there is a special check box for “problem with how text is displayed”
Note: there is a special category for “Driver” issues
Note: When you look at existing feedbacks there is a “Share” button near the top left side of the dialog to get a link to the suggestion. That button is NOT present when creating a new feedback. You have to submit it, in the Feedback Hub home you have to click on “My Feedback” at the very top of the screen and select “All Categories” just below that. Then click on your recently submitted suggestion. Now, you can see the “Share” button to get a link you can post back to the forum so other people can comment and vote on the suggestion.
