I can not pin folders anymore in excel or word 2016

Pin to Start and then drag the icon to your desk top.
Hi Vice - I don't think you fully understand the reported issue.
Try this.
Open either the "open" or "open recent" buttons. Navigate to the folder you want. Highlight it and right click it. Choose "Pin to Quick access".
Then click either "open" and browse or "open recent" buttons. In the left window, scroll to the top and you will see your folder in the "Quick access" section.
Not quite as handy but it works.

I have the same issue in Office 2016 - you can't pin folders - further, you can't add a web address as an additional place like you could in Word/Excel 2013 - you can only add Office 365 SharePoint and OneDrive.
