CAN'T PIN FOLDERS ANYMORE IN EXCEL/WORD 2016

I already had that box selected in Excel options. And why would formula calculation have anything to do with pinning folders?

That suggestion makes no sense at all. I'm amazed that an 'insider' would suggest that.

The only way to have pinned folders back is to revert to version 16.0.6366.2068 and disable automatic updates.

Please Go to Excel - Options - Formulas - Workbook Calculation - Select Automatic

Then See Excel - Save As - This PC - and Enjoy Pin Folders

To be honest, despite all this, the easiest option seems to be to simply add links to all of the commonly used folders into one folder and pin it to your quick access available via the "Browse" button?

Actually, the easiest option is to disable automatic update and revert to 16.0.6366.2068, the version before this inexplicable change.

Sorry I was away at home as this is being tested at a work environment, the tweak requires setting up a new registry key under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ServiceManagerCache\Identities<Your_Profile_ID>\

I am still having a play with the registry values to see if I can find a sweet spot where I can have multiple folders listed vs a single folder for each instance on the left panel, I'll update this thread when I have more info.

There is also This where it shows recently opened folders, but it seems to only display those which are a subfolder of the path that you specify in the registry.

For example, if I set the Recent Folders path to "C:" then anything I open within "C:" or My Documents/Desktop/etc will be listed, but if I then open a folder on "D:" this will not show up on the list.

This is bugging me quite a bit as I cannot seem to find a work around at the moment.

OK so here is how to do it.

Under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ServiceManagerCache\Identities<Your_Profile_ID>\ create a new key called whatever you want "My Folder" is an example.

Under that create another key called "Metadata"

Within the first key enter the details as shown in this image (The "ConnectionUrl" is the location of the root, any folders viewed that are subfolders of this path will be listed in the recently viewed list and be available to pin)

Within Metadata insert the data as shown in this image (if you want folders showing/pin-able then set the Metadata "Type" to anything invalid like "Null" if however you want to see the contents of said folder vs recent folders you can set the "Type" to "Skydrive")

Where it shows <Your Profile> simply enter your own profile details.
