Hi,
I just upgraded to Office 2016 via the Office 365 subscription. Working on a Surface Pro 3 and Windows 10. I am mostly using OneNote 2016 to take handwritten notes using the Surface Pen.
The disappearing ink issue, (that was a problem in the OneNote 2013 edition, until it was fixed), seems to be back: parts of written stuff disappear. I was writing in OneNote 2016, and out of nowhere, parts of what I had written earlier disappeared. Though the issue is not as severe as it was earlier, when the disappearing was very frequent.
This needs to be fixed ASAP, it renders OneNote not very useful for note-taking!

Hi Mavis,
really thank you for your/microsoft interesting in this very big bug
I've updated my OneNote C2R to 16.0.6001.1038 version but when I set Automatic handwriting recognition on, a similar problem seems to still occur: for two times while I was writing with the pen I saw few words (two or three) of a note I wrote before, vanish. So I tried to disable hand writing recognition and than everything went well for hours. But I had many doubts so I tried again to switch ahwr on, but after about one hour the same problem occurred while I was writing. So I switched it off again.
Are there anyone that have tested if the OneNote last update actually solve this problem ?
Thank You All
Hope that microsoft make OneNote reliable
PS: when I saw words vanish I tried to click on "undo" of onenote and for each click I did, the vanished words came back for a instant than vanish again and than come back again after another click but suddenly vanish and so on. After several "undo" (progressively deleting letters of my last word taken) the two/three words vanished reappear.
Hi Monti
Do you see the ink disappearing at the same frequency as before?
To make sure that the installation itself didn't fail, could you try the following:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\
or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\
5. Copy here the File version and Product version numbers listed.
The latest update contains a fix for a case where we know ink will disappear that matches the description given on this forum. We have tested, verified and validated that change. There can be different bugs that leads to the ink disappearing on OneNote. If you and others are still hitting the bug even with the update, then there is possibly a different cause for that specific ink disappearing bug and we will investigate it.
Thanks
Mavis
Still waiting for update for the MSI version (MAK version). When will that be available? I cannot install the C2R version of OneNote with MAK version of Office installed.
Hey Mavis, thanks for your help in working through this.
I'm on office insider (I think).
Product/File version 16.0.6228.1010
I just saw ink disappear.. It wasn't very much, just a couple of strokes on the far left of the page, but I turned Automatic Handwriting recognition off again to be safe.
Am I on a version that has the update applied?
I'm not 16.0.6001.1038, but It looks like my version is after that.
OneNote says Office is up to date.
