can't print envelopes in Word 2016

This is a Windows 10 issue.  I've been beating my head against this for more than an hour.  I've been trying to print out the envelopes for our Christmas cards, a task I perform every year.  I have done this using Office 2007 for years, Office 2003 for a few years before that.  The one exception was last year, when I used OpenOffice.  Most of this time I have used the same printer (Brother hl-2140).  The only thing that has changed over the years is my operating system.  I have tried to simply print envelopes using OpenOffice, LibreOffice and MSOffice 2007.  All of my drivers are up to date.  Every attempt has failed. 

I know you're going to tell me it's a driver issue or a hardware issue, Doug, but it is not.  It is simply a Windows 10 issue.  When I find some time later I will confirm this by firing up a virtual machine and printing my envelopes using Linux Mint and LibreOffice.

Update:  Confirmed.  I have an old computer I use as a Minecraft server for my son.  It's running Windows 7 and has Office 2007 installed.  I moved my recipient list over and ran a mail merge and the entire process went off without a hitch using the same printer over the network.

I haven't taken the time to track down the problem (and probably won't), but at a guess I'd say there's a checked box somewhere in the bowels of Windows 10 that says "Let Windows handle this device" or somesuch.

As you already know what I would have told you, I won't bother.  However, if you do eventually, get your printer to work correctly with Windows 10, remember what I did not tell you.

Solved it, at least when using Office 2007 (sorry, I usually use OpenOffice or LibreOffice, so I haven't kept up).  All you have to do is stop Windows 10 from managing your default printer (All Settings - Devices - Printers and Scanners.  Turn "Let Windows manage my default printer" off).
