When I click on Assign Resources MS Project shuts down ?  Has this happened to others and is there a solution, or suggestions for a good around ?

I reported this problem to my contacts at Microsoft, and they found out what you are experiencing is a bug due to the "presence" indicator that comes through Outlook and Skype for Business.  The bug is now slated for fixing, but there is no timeline on when the bug fix will be released.  In the meantime, please try the following in Microsoft Project 2016 to disable the "presence" indicator for resources:

  1. Click File > Options > Display.
  2. DESELECT the "Online status next to name" checkbox.
  3. Click the OK button.

    Actually  ran two repairs, a quick repair--  then an online repair,    program continues to crash.  Is this happening to others and any suggestions on a fix would be welcome.  Microsoft was no help.  I have Office 2016 and was thinking about going down to Project 2013, but don't know if  Project 2013 would work with other office apps (excel, word, power point, and one note)  on 2016 -- comments.

    You asked if Resources Assignment to Tasks via the menu in Project 2016 is crashing for others.  The answer is "yes."

    I have set up a simple test case - one Task and one Work Resource.  When I try to assign the one Work Resource to the Task, Project 2016 fails when you are working under the "Resources" tab.  Interestingly enough, I have found that the Work Resource can be added to the Task when you are working under the "Task" tab in a Gantt Chart format.  Seems like a software glitch to me.

    I have unsuccessfully tried a couple times getting a resolution via the various 1-800 phone calls to MS along with a couple chat boxes.  So for, no luck finding a software patch to fix this situation.

    Thank you John.  My efforts to resolve with MS were also unsuccessful.  Any ideas on  where to go from here ?

    I have windows 10 with Office  2016 and Project 2016. I am unable to repro this issue.

    Did you try using assign resource option from ribbon menu?

    Also, was Project 2013 installed on this computer before? Did you upgrade Global.MPT after installing Project 2016?
