BUG!! Word 2016 fails to print margins correctly / messes up layout (Possible OpenType .otf Font bug)

Hallo everyone,

I am having severe problems with Word 2016, as it does not print the document layout correctly as it somehow messes up the margin when printing.

NOTE: This happens when printing to Adobe Acrobat DC and my physical printer!

My document layout:

• no markup,

• custom margins (set to 1,27cm top / bottom and left / right - my printer can easily handle these...)

• no header or footer

• paper size set to A4 in all settings

The following is picture shows page 1 of my document in "Print Layout"-view. This is how I want the document to look when printed.

Here is a picture of the Print-preview menu. You can see that the Print preview still shows the document exactly as I want it. No problems. No funny settings selected. No "Print Markup" selected.

Now this is what happens when I print the actual document:

The bottom margin changes and suddenly the whole layout is messed up!

Please advise whether this a bug, or some setting I seem to wrongfully configure.

This is really annoying as I sometimes spend hours to get the layout and spacing in a document right, but then when it comes to printing the document, everything is messed up.

    I'm on 16.0.6001.1043 from this morning, and the bug is indeed still there!

    I guess I am not the only one suffering this problem.

    I was previously running Office 2013, and it was working fine, the document I printed using Minion Pro was exactly as what I viewed from the print preview. It fit just nicely in one page.

    I uninstalled my Office 2013 and upgraded to Office 2016 just three days ago.

    Just 3 days later I looked at the same document, and noticed the end of the text came up a little short. That's odd, because I remember the end of the text was just nicely above the bottom margin. There is a gap between the end of the text to the bottom margin in the Word 2016 version.

    So anyway, I readjusted the text so that it fit just above the bottom margin. When I printed it, however, the output resulted in two pages. When I changed it to Times New Roman, it printed exactly as was shown in print preview. I then reverted to the original document which had a gap from the bottom margin (as viewed in Word 2016), printed it and it turned out just like the pre 2013 version which did not have the gap, but was just nice before the margin.

    Definitely a bug in this version.

    Still no solution ... Come on, Microsoft, this is a very basic problem - you can't expect us to just use the fonts provided with Office itself?

    The best way to bring this to the attention of the Product Team is to raise the issue at:

    However, while I believe you are entitled to expect Word to work correctly with the fonts provided by Office itself, I am not sure that you are entitled to expect Word to work correctly with fonts from other sources.

    Hi guys, I made another search on this issue, apparently they discontinued support for .otf fonts long time ago. However, I find it odd that I could use it without any issue in Office 2013 which included Word 2013, and also previously in Office 2010. Some people reported they could not use otf in Word 2013, but could do so in PowerPoint 2013. I just upgraded to Office 2016, and was working on the similar document on both Word 2013 and 2016 so I am quite sure I could use it in Word 2013.

    I find it very strange that support for otf would have stopped, to be honest.

    @Doug: I've adde my vote to the problem at the website you mention (it's already listed there). I still wonder, then, why everything worked fine in all previous versions of Word ...
