BUG!! Word 2016 fails to print margins correctly / messes up layout (Possible OpenType .otf Font bug)

Hallo everyone,

I am having severe problems with Word 2016, as it does not print the document layout correctly as it somehow messes up the margin when printing.

NOTE: This happens when printing to Adobe Acrobat DC and my physical printer!

My document layout:

• no markup,

• custom margins (set to 1,27cm top / bottom and left / right - my printer can easily handle these...)

• no header or footer

• paper size set to A4 in all settings

The following is picture shows page 1 of my document in "Print Layout"-view. This is how I want the document to look when printed.

Here is a picture of the Print-preview menu. You can see that the Print preview still shows the document exactly as I want it. No problems. No funny settings selected. No "Print Markup" selected.

Now this is what happens when I print the actual document:

The bottom margin changes and suddenly the whole layout is messed up!

Please advise whether this a bug, or some setting I seem to wrongfully configure.

This is really annoying as I sometimes spend hours to get the layout and spacing in a document right, but then when it comes to printing the document, everything is messed up.

    Just checking, am I the only one suffering from document footer issues as well?

    All of our documents have corporate footers that are made up from text and images, they work perfectly in all versions of Word except 2016 where for some reason the images move position and also the main irritation is that even though the print preview displays perfectly (once the images have been re-positioned) the printed document is completely different with the images and text all different sizes and out of position? any one else have this problem?

    I have tried all possible solutions available (listed in the forums and this thread) our office have just moved over to 356 2016 and its caused a massive head ache! thanks Microsoft...

    Ours do the same, youre not alone. Its a big problem for corporate users in marketing.

    Do your documents use one of the Adobe "Pro" fonts? (like Garamond Pro, Myriad Pro, Minion Pro...). Although Word is supposed to be able to support OpenType fonts, these are "CFF" style OpenType fonts that use hinting from their original PostScript roots — and Word 2016 cannot properly resolve the fonts for layout. Note that Word doesn't seem to have trouble coping with OpenType TrueType fonts; just the CFF versions.

    Have you tested the workaround suggested by Suzanne Barnhill on this thread? (It appears on page 4; dated January 2016.) It is not a reasonable solution for an office since it requires making some fussy compatibility options via the Word VBA panel — but it did resolve the problems I had been having.

    You might consider adding your voice to the growing list of users with this problem at Microsoft's "uservoice" site here. There was some acknowledgement some time ago that the problem was being worked on, but so far no news about a fix.

    If you are a corporate client, you could also raise it with your Microsoft sales rep.

    Good News!  A fix has been released to the latest click to run version of office and I encourage anyone that is running into this problem to install and verify it is fixed. Also, for MSI customers, we expect to release a fix early next year if there are no issues discovered in the click to run version.
