BUG!! Word 2016 fails to print margins correctly / messes up layout (Possible OpenType .otf Font bug)

Hallo everyone,

I am having severe problems with Word 2016, as it does not print the document layout correctly as it somehow messes up the margin when printing.

NOTE: This happens when printing to Adobe Acrobat DC and my physical printer!

My document layout:

• no markup,

• custom margins (set to 1,27cm top / bottom and left / right - my printer can easily handle these...)

• no header or footer

• paper size set to A4 in all settings

The following is picture shows page 1 of my document in "Print Layout"-view. This is how I want the document to look when printed.

IMAGE 2

Here is a picture of the Print-preview menu. You can see that the Print preview still shows the document exactly as I want it. No problems. No funny settings selected. No "Print Markup" selected.

Now this is what happens when I print the actual document:

The bottom margin changes and suddenly the whole layout is messed up!

Please advise whether this a bug, or some setting I seem to wrongfully configure.

This is really annoying as I sometimes spend hours to get the layout and spacing in a document right, but then when it comes to printing the document, everything is messed up.

Thank you.

Well: The Open Type Font Bug seems not to be solved with version: 1710 Build 8625.2064.

I think there is a kind of improvement as my test document now has the same number of pages in Word and PDF - think this was not the case before, but I forgot to document all my tests in detail. But the following picture explains the current status of the bug with this current version of Word.

On the right is the PDF file on the left the Word file. The pdf page shows an additional list item. The white space is defined by the footer paragraph with option "Line spacing 'Single' ". This white space line spacing is smaller in the Word Desktop view than in the converted PDF page. All other paragraphs of the content have line spacing 'Multiple at 1.2'.

So it may be that now the bug is limited to line spacing option 'Single. Further tests will have to clarify that.

    Regards Dieter

Good News!  A fix has been released to the latest click to run version of office and I encourage anyone that is running into this problem to install and verify it is fixed. Also, for MSI customers, we expect to release a fix early next year if there are no issues discovered in the click to run version.

    Thanks!

    Lisa

    Hi!

Updating to latest version using Office updates in Word2016 did not solve this issue for us.

Also, it only updates to version 1705 (8201.2200), not 1709 or that I've seen people mention here.

I'm not sure what you mean by MSI customers , but we have Subscription Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus and I sure hope we don't have to wait until 2018 for a fix on this. We have about 1300 users that are effected by this that need to be able to use the company default font and know what the end result will be.

Is there an "external" fix/update I can run and test with without using the update button in office?

    Regards

    David

Good to hear! Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be released for Office 365 Business customers yet. It shows up on the website for "Office Insiders" but if you're on the Monthly (fastest for business) update branch the latest version you can update to is 1709. Office 365 doesn't allow our business tenant to receive insider updates, just monthly. Is there a way to install it manually since we can't opt-in to Insider updates? Link to update page below:
