Excel 2016 - One instance

I do not find this to be an improvement. I loose a lot of time and space. It would have been better to give people the choice, with a config option. I regret 2010 for this possibility. I can't even imagine what advantages this 'improvement' can bring to anybody. Please go back to as it was before. Thank you.

I work for the VA and they recently updated to the Office 2016 version at my facility. The new version does not allow me to open multiple files in the same window. This should be a toggle on the options but is not. Why is it important to do this? For me I have one file I that opens every time I start Excel this is my VLookup Data and Scripts I use for all my work. I was able to open any additional files and the scripts could be used as well as all look up data. Now I can copy the data tab to the new file in the new window but the scripts do not work or even transfer with the data tab. Please consider looking at all possible uses when removing features. I recommend adding the feature as a setting in the advanced tab at a minimum.

Although Microsoft insists on separate windows for opening workbooke there is a workarround so that workbooks are opened in the same memoryspace; therefore, they can share things like macros and scripts.  Once you open excel and your default spreadsheet kicks off create a new workbook or open your desired workbook from Excel's File Open command.  Don't try to open multiple workbooks from Windows Explorer and expect them to work together as if they are in the same memoryspace; however, you can open multiple workbooks from an open Excel workbook.

I hope this helps some.  I too miss the single window with multiple workbooks.  I used to make use of the Excel workspace feature to open many related workbooks from different directories.

Alas, through my research, I've found that this is no longer possible in the latest versions (since 2013 version?).

I like that feature because it put only one Excel icon on my Taskbar.  If this is your issue as well, then the "work around" I've just discovered is using the Taskbar settings.

Set the "Combine taskbar buttons" to "Always, hide labels" - certainly makes my taskbar look a whole lot neater and it doesn't bug me as much that there are actually multiple instances of Excel open.
