How can I configure Excel to open only one instance similar to 2010.

Excel 2016 when opened opens only one instance. However, let us know if you are talking about the ability in Excel 2016 to open multiple spreadsheets in the same Excel 2016 window? If yes, then this feature is not available in Excel 2016 and was discontinued since Excel 2013.

    This is the absolute worst change - it has negatively impacted my ability to work.  Do the developers even use Excel and understand how those of us with data heavy careers use the tool they support? 

    I also have the issue now of Excel opening multiple, disconnected instances - which means not only does my personal macros only show up in one, but when I try to work across workbooks (vlookups typically) that is not possible, and I can't even align the workbooks horizontally as they're not connected.

    I had IT bring my old computer back that they had replaced for a different issue because Excel 2016 is such an inefficient tool that actually prevents me from doing my work in an efficient manner.  I'm dreading the day they force me to switch to Excel 2016

    • I will hold out as long as I possibly can.

    Please fix this Microsoft.

    Hello All

    I ve been following this, and posting for some time. Does anyone at Microsoft read any of this? When will this be fixed?

    I've already asked my IS service to re-install office 2010 for the picture manager and now I'm trying to get rid of Excel 2016 and go back to 2010. Can anyone tell me when Microsoft will give us a choice on multifile screens please?

    You can't default it but if you have the folder with your file in it open click and drag the shortcut into the excel session you want it to open in. This means things like Ctrl + Tab will take you between the sheets in that session.

    Bizzarre that this doesn't happen when you double click, Microsoft have removed functionality that is essential for LOADS of other functions. A good example is if you want to copy\move a tab from 1 file to another; without having the files open in the same session this is impossible. Awful 'update'.

    Loving 95% of the 2016 version but this is just mind boggling, I'll just have to reprogram my brain to use my mouse for the first time in 20 years. What a backward step, Ctrl + O doesn't even work without a mouse now because it takes you to another screen and you have to click the browse button to get a folder up. My productivity just dipped because all the simple keyboard shortcuts to get to my most used folders don't work anymore. Grrrr.
