I cannot get Excel 2016 to open and run a file by clicking on the file from File Explorer. Is there a bug?

Online repair doesn't help me but Uninstall and re-installing it back fixed my issue.

Having installed Office 2016 only yesterday, being told to do a Repair seemed ridiculous, in order to solve my "can't open Excel files by right-clicking in Explorer" problem. But it fixed my problem.

It also fixed an associated problem whereby CSV files downloaded from my bank through Chrome were no longer opening in Excel automatically.

In summary, to perform an Online Repair:

Control panel > Programs and features> Microsoft Office > Change > Online Repair

The Online Repair above worked. The Online repair takes a while but repairs the problem.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Try the followings:

Open Excel --> Choose Settings in File menu --> Data Security Center --> On right bottom choose the button

--> on appearing dialog choose trusted places.

Here you can put all trusted places where you can open your Excel files from Explorer.

If you have another issue with opening please be more specific what is the issue with it?
