I cannot get Excel 2016 to open and run a file by clicking on the file from File Explorer. Is there a bug?

    The xlsx files already associated

    Checked box

    then opened file

same thing - still get "blank" Excel application open , but no workbook appears as in the past

having many issues with this new Office 2016 update (OneNote 2016 in particular - now this) ... lots of bugs I guess ...

    will try "repair" below next

    Hi Deepak,

Unfortunately this does not work. Excel 2016 will open the file ONLY FROM WITHIN THE APPLICATION but not otherwise. The application will open to a blank screen. I saw another suggestion elsewhere about "IGNORE DDE" but this option was not selected anyway in the app and therefore is not the issue. Open to other suggestions. Thanks.

This did not work for me either.
