PowerPoint Mac 2016: The image part with relationship ID rId2 was not found in the file.

AAHHH! I just upgraded to PowerPoint for Mac, Office 2016, and I'm getting this same error. I spent a whole week on a presentation that I'm doing to tomorrow and almost all of my images have disappeared. THIS IS TERRIBLE! I'm not sure what I'm going to do. 

'The image part with relationship ID rId2 was not found in the file'

Is there a fix for this?? Preferably before tomorrow morning? These are all images that I either created or pulled as screen shots. (All jpegs.) 

PLEASE HELP!

    The best way to prevent the problem (assuming it's the same one as beset Office 2013 on Windows) is

    1. ALWAYS put your presentation on the hard drive, never on removable media, before editing it
    2. NEVER put your presentation in a folder where some other program will access it while you're editing, especially programs that try to synch the folder with the cloud (Dropbox and the like).

    Unfortunately, once  the file's giving you this error, it's already damaged; there's no fix other than deleting the pictures and re-adding them.

    I am working with a PPT 2016 file and saving it to box.com. I have not only received this error message on my current file and lost all of my images (several days of work), but all stored prior versions which I have attempted to download and open have the same error. Why would these additional versions, which were kA fine up until now, also be corrupted if they were not even opened recently? This makes no sense.

    I've had this problem too.  I've actually had to stop using the product as I have no confidence that investing time in preparing a presentation will actually result in me having the presentation when I need it.  Absolutely ridiculous.  I have never known anything like this.

    This is a helpful answer; however this is not a practical solution. 

    I use PC, windows 10 and I just encountered several files that are corrupted in this same manner in more than one Office program (ppt and word) and all my images are lost as well; apparently to davey jones' locker...? All places I had images now display the red x and an error message  "the image part with relationship to ID rID2 was not found in the file"

    I primarily use removable media and to have to move all files that I will be editing off my external hard drive onto the computer (to later move them back) is not efficient nor practical. 

    Does microsoft really provide no fix for this issue?!
