Excel 2016 for Mac does not recalculate

I have a multiple-sheet workbook that does not recalculate after I update some cells. It would only recalculate after I save and then reopen it. My Excel preferences is set to automatic recalculate. After I change the value of cells, the workbook does not recalculate even after I press the F9 key. I have tried Command+F9 to no avail. The workbook had a data connection and I had deleted it. The version is 15.12.3. Any idea what I can do?

ref my earlier question I found an answer that worked:

Why does my formula not calculate in Excel?

Instead the text of the formula itself appears in the cell directly. See example below. Cause: The cell is formatted as Text, which causes Excel to ignore any formulas. This could be directly due to the Text format, or is particularly common when importing data from a CSV or Notepad file

I copied the data from the original import worksheet into a fresh worksheet and the formulas worked fine

As Anthony noted, version 15.26 (160903) does contain the fix. This version has now been released to all audiences. Please make sure your Office is up to date and this problem should be resolved.

    I reported it several times via the smiley face also. My solution galls me but I bought a Surface Pro 3 to replace my apple laptop. I often wonder if this is a strategy for MS, Put a less then optimal product out for Apple, then hope users get **** off enough to buy MS Windows based products?

    I sent this issue via the Smile/Frown button 3 times already... when first noticed, and then once again after two different updates.  Still no fix.  I'm not sure that anyone ever actually looks at the Smile/Frown reports, nor am I sure this will ever get fixed.  It's been reported on this forum for several months in at least 2 different threads as well as I am sure many people sent it via the Frown.  Ver disappointing that such a known and glaring issue cannot get resolved quickly.

    I pay every month for Office 365, why does Microsoft not have a real ticket system where I can issue a problem, get assigned a case number, and get a trackable response?  Throwing comments into a smiley face black hole is no way to support paying users.

    Hi

    As a general rule I reply only after 2 or 3 days have passed with no activity on a new question. If a question goes past that time frame I ignore it until someone tacks on a reply as happened here a long time after the question had become dormant.

    What you described in the reply I am currently responding to is a screen redraw problem. What I think you are saying is that Excel is actually performing the calculation, but the screen is not refreshing as it should.

    This is a problem that should be reported directly to Microsoft using the Smile button in Excel. Microsoft may not even be aware that this problem exists.
