Excel 2016 for Mac does not recalculate

I have a multiple-sheet workbook that does not recalculate after I update some cells. It would only recalculate after I save and then reopen it. My Excel preferences is set to automatic recalculate. After I change the value of cells, the workbook does not recalculate even after I press the F9 key. I have tried Command+F9 to no avail. The workbook had a data connection and I had deleted it. The version is 15.12.3. Any idea what I can do?

ref my earlier question I found an answer that worked:

Why does my formula not calculate in Excel?

Instead the text of the formula itself appears in the cell directly. See example below. Cause: The cell is formatted as Text, which causes Excel to ignore any formulas. This could be directly due to the Text format, or is particularly common when importing data from a CSV or Notepad file

I copied the data from the original import worksheet into a fresh worksheet and the formulas worked fine

As Anthony noted, version 15.26 (160903) does contain the fix. This version has now been released to all audiences. Please make sure your Office is up to date and this problem should be resolved.

    If you want to be able to interact with Microsoft engineers about this problem install the Fast Insider build. Then you can discuss this in the special Insider forum. The forum hosting this question right here is user-to-user, so here you're just sharing information among fellow Excel customers.

    Keep in mind that the Insider Fast program is not for everyone. The builds are large, frequent and unsupported. You may encounter other features that are broken or new features that may not be fully built. You will be getting the very freshest builds of Office to try out.

    If I reference field A1 for example by typing "=A1" in field D37 for example and then scroll so I can't see D37.

    If I amend A1 to whatever else, in this case I just had text in that field, then scroll back down to see D37, it hasn't changed even though the field it refers to has.

    could you please do me the favor and explain again when the bug occurs: "JUST A SINGLE REFERENCE TO AN OFF SCREEN FIELD ISN'T CHANGING WHEN THE REFENCE FIELD IS AMANEDED". 

    What do you mean by "off screen field"?

    What do you mean by "amanding the reference field"?
