Office 2016 uninstalls my Visio 2013

Please tell me the solution.

I wish to run both Office 365/2016 and Visio 2013, which I purchased through my Microsoft account, on my recently purchased Surface Pro 3. So far as I can see, Microsoft has not proposed ANY solution to this issue. Does this mean that I have to junk either my copy of Visio 2013 or Office 365/2016? I do not intend to carry TWO laptops around with me to my clients' premises just because Microsoft won't fix the problem.

The link provided in Mike Maxey's post leads to a page which tells individual users to contact the Answer Desk. That link points to Answer Desk portal and the only response I have been able to elicit from this is a link back to the page referring me to the Answer Desk. I guess that if users keep going around in this reclusive loop, they won't be troubling Microsoft. But, basically, his reply is USELESS and NOT A SOLUTION.

Today, I followed the familiar path, but am willing to keep trying to resolve my issue, by contacting the Answer Desk process.

This time, the issue is taken seriously and courteously and I have an issue number and an email appointment sent to me for a follow up call in 48 hours by a technical support member.

My scenario is clearly understood: Office 365 personal subscriber, also with a one-off Visio Standard 2013 application that was uninstalled by the Office 2016 upgrade that can now not be installed in conjunction with Office 2016.

My details were noted, the product key of my Visio Standard 2013 and the open-ended (allows for possibilities) requirement of needing to continue to use the Office suite and Visio.

Similar to some of the other users, with the interim solution of trial version of Visio Professional 2016 for 60 days, I am willing to consider a range of possible solutions, but have ruled out as unacceptable any suggestion to re-purchase Visio Standard 2016 for the same price as only purchased 6 months ago.

So, I have a short-term interim solution and the acknowledgement of my problem, with a commitment to contact me to resolve my issue.

To me, this is a reasonable response to an unacceptable situation, so I am happy with the new plan. It is so superior to the previous response of "well you can't use both" response.

I contacted the answer desk as per the private message I received. I was asked the normal questions and thought I was getting nowhere fast.

I was then asked for my Visio Pro 2013 product key. Shortly after I was asked to check my email, it contained a link that I followed to my Office Account, low and behold I now had the option to install Visio Pro 2016.

I am very happy with this outcome, it looks like MS has realised their 'work arounds' were not going to fly and have upgraded users to the 2016 versions of the affected applications.

This mess just gets WORSE.

I didn't upgrade either the suite or Visio on my main machine, but installed the suite on a spare tablet so I could try it out. I wanted to do the same for Visio. No go!

In the Office portal, I clicked on the The latest version of Visio link to show the Download and customise link, which I then clicked.

That opened the Office 2013 Deployment Tool for Click-to-Run page. Why the 2013 version? FK!

Opening the Details section, an Office 2016 Deployment Tool for Click-to-Runlink is shown, which I then clicked to open the Office 2016 Deployment Toolpage.

This page is for administrators to download and customise the deployment tool, and nothing to do with directly downloading the Visio Pro 2016 update. ****!! Running Setup.exe just flashes a Command box that has the /? help lines, which is all I could discern from the very brief time it is on the screen.

When I had done the same thing on my main system, which has Visio Pro 2013 already installed, I was directly taken to a page to download the update installer.

What is troubling is that if I had I upgraded the suite on my main system to 2016, and consequently had my Visio 2013 deleted, it looks like I would have been left in the same situation as above, namely no Visio!

PITIFUL planning on this one! Offering to privately help us is of no use if it doesn't really solve this problem, as the onerous program dependencies and misdirected installation processes are just too flaky to rely on workarounds working properly on.

Solve the problems and give us a real solution that doesn't waste ours and MS's time.

Until then, I recommend that NOBODY upgrades ANY of the Office programs IF they want to load any of them concurrently on the same machine.

The anti-MS trolls on forums like ZD-Net would have feeding frenzy on this one, and it doesn't matter how MS-friendly anyone is, there is no defence they could offer. A design and implementation stuff-up.

FYI: Both my main system and the tablet run Windows 10 Pro.
