Office 2016 uninstalls my Visio 2013

So, even though I had followed the instructions to install Office 2016 from Office 365 home, it was not successful even after 5 tries, restarting, uninstalling, restarting...my biggest issue is Visio 2013. I purchased it as I need it! But why can't I find any way to just upgrade Visio from 2013 to 2016? There is no instruction! I do not want to buy the new Visio 2016 when I only purchased Visio 2013 a few months ago. Please help!!!

    Hi All,

I seem to be one of the few here who has the problem in reverse, that is, I had Office 2013 first and I now have Visio 2016. Can anyone out there chime in to let me know if you have had the same issues.

Here's the key facts, I'm a HUP user and whilst I'll be the first to admit that the price is a bargain for both Office and Visio, as I had originally purchased the Office 2013 software in April of this year, I didn't want to pay for the Office 2016 software. I'm disappointed that at no stage during the purchasing process from the same website where I got the Office 2013 software, which has on my account that I purchased the same a few months ago, was I notified that the two would be incompatible on the same system. I now have a choice of using either one (but not both) on my machine, paying for the newer version of Office 2016 or buying a new machine so I can run both, separately.

Looking at the links posted in this forum by users, to the MS page where you can get a free upgrade. I don't see Visio 2016 in the list of qualifying applications. Therefore, when I spoke to the helpdesk, I was turned away. Rightly so, when they checked out the support page where it lists the 'qualifying applications'. That said, what I don't understand is why isn't Visio 2016 included on the list when clearly it also has incompatibility issues with previous versions of MS Office software.

If the forum moderator could contact me to let me know if this problem can be resolved or if my only option is to buy a copy of Office 2016, I would very much appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance.

MS is all about pushing the "upgrade" move to 2016, so I don't see that they will allow the move you are looking for, even though it would cost them nothing.

But then again, the HUP license is typically US$10, which is not too bad for Office 2016 ...

Have you tried running your visio inside of a virtual computer, Hyper-V if you have a Pro version of Windows, or something like VirtualBox

You avoid installing nonsense on your PC to begin with by testing everything in a virtual machine first. Snapshots just make it easier.

If you’re running Windows, Virtualbox is probably your best bet. It’s free, open-source, runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux, the interface is easy to use, and it supports snapshots. There are other solutions, but Vmware Player don’t support snapshots, Hyper-V supports a similar feature called “checkpoints” but has a really clunky interface, and while Vmware Workstation has snapshots and is easy to use, it’s fairly expensive for what we’re trying to accomplish. We’d stick with Virtualbox.

Um. Sure you are ha ha.

Yesterday, I ordered MS Project 2016 so I could edit view project files. I have Office 365 Home edition. I currently have Office 2013, and also purchased Visio 2013 separately in April.

When I went to install MS Project 2016, I got the message "We Need to remove some older apps".  So I clicked "Learn More".

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/-We-need-to-remove-some-older-apps-error-a225347f-e102-4ea6-9796-5d1ac5220c3b?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

    It says

What can I do about this?

If you have a Microsoft Account associated with one of the products in the left column of the following table, and own one of the standalone applications in the right column of the table, you can contact the Microsoft Answer Desk for a free upgrade to these standalone applications.

So I said, cool. OK I'll get the Upgrade to Visio and continue my PURCHASE or MS Project for 600.00 + tax.

Ok so I contact the answer desk online. The chat person says I'm not qualified for an upgrade. I say "WHAT?" it says right here that I am:

    Office 365 Home? Check

    Visio Standard 2013? Check

So after a few minutes I get disconnected. That's interesting.

So I call back. They transfer me to technical support. Then they transfer me to sales. After about ten minutes he reads me back the lines above and finally admits that I'm eligible for an upgrade. He says he'll transfer me back to technical support. I said "Only if you are on the line at the same time". He says ok then I'm on hold for 10 minutes. He says he's waiting to connect to technical support. I finally give up. I tell him I'm going to CANCEL my purchase of MS Project 2016. Which I did.

So, msft lost a 600.00 purchase because they wouldn't honor their own web site statement.

Contrast that to Apple. I had an iPhone under Applecare warranty, this was a while ago. The home button was broken. It was indeed upder apple care warranty, and instead of going through some hoopla the person just said "Wait here; I'll just get you a new phone" and he went back and got me a new phone. Employees empowered to make a decision. That's why Apple's eating your lunch MSFT.

I guess I try to find an open source MS Project file app.
