Office 2016 uninstalls my Visio 2013

So, even though I had followed the instructions to install Office 2016 from Office 365 home, it was not successful even after 5 tries, restarting, uninstalling, restarting...my biggest issue is Visio 2013. I purchased it as I need it! But why can't I find any way to just upgrade Visio from 2013 to 2016? There is no instruction! I do not want to buy the new Visio 2016 when I only purchased Visio 2013 a few months ago. Please help!!!

Good catch wigreg.  I've sent in a request to the forum moderators to post and pin a note about this link.

to MS for FINALLY doing the "right thing"

I hope MS has this note delivered to EVERY MS Support person at the start of every work shift, posted on all the phone center doors and lunch rooms etc.  No one in MS Support should have any excuse for not knowing about it!

I'm reposting my previous post -

I have good news and some bad.

Good News:  I now have a free upgrade to a perpetual license of Visio 2016.  So I'm eating my words.  MS did the honorable thing.  My sincere apologies to Bill.

Bad News:  Office 2013 is fundamentally incompatible with 2016 and it does not look like it ever will be.

Here's the process that (finally) worked.

    • Tech support called me back and 90min later I have a free upgrade.  The (only) number that worked was 866-452-4755.
    • Ask for a Visio specialist
    • I worked with Pankaj
    • I had to allow remote access (make sure you create a restore point prior to doing this!!!!!)
    • I was assigned a case number.
    • Make sure that you expect them to call you back if you are disconnected
    • Oddly, I had to create an entirely new MS user account.  I have no idea why, but he said there was no other choice.  So, now I have two.
    • He assigned the free 2016 Visio Standard license to my new account.
    • If you've installed the free trial of Visio 2016 (as I did), you do not need to uninstall first.  The new install overwrites it.
    • Once installed, you can use your old MS account.  The new account is necessary only for the new perpetual license.

Keep on ranting.  I can assure you that the issue can be resolved.  Try the number I provided previously and ask to speak with a Visio specialist.  That last bit is important.  I am skeptical that MS will continue to provide free upgrades in the future given that they are losing some money on this.  But until there is a fix, you will be able to get what you need.

Is there an equivalent number for UK?
