Word 2016 hangs when opening a document based on a template

I store my documents in:

OneDrive\Shared Documents\Business

and my templates in

OneDrive\Shared Documents\Templates

As I've done for over a year.

All worked fine in Office / Word 2013

Word 2016 will hang if I try and open a document that is based on a template.

The templates are available.

I've tried renaming the templates and removing spaces in the names but that didn't help.

If I remove the template the document will open and show as based on Normal.dotx.

All templates and documents use the new 2016 file format and are saved as .dotx.

Please note:

I'd rather you didn't reply to this issue if you haven't actually experienced this problem or if you haven't actually tried the fix you propose.

    The latest version is 16.0.6769.2017

    I'va the same problem. The only walk-around that's working is to open the template first and then the document.

    I'm running version 16.0.6001.1073 and if I choose update options, update now, It tells me: you are running the latest version(!).

    Windows 10, Office 2016.

    Template located on Onedrive. Created document from template and saved to onedrive.

    Template contains spaces, when the Office splash screen shows it says it's trying to open the template with %20 for spaces and it crashes.

    Renamed the template to match the name on splash screen and the document opens just fine.

    Hi,

    Which versions of Office 2016 are you using?

    I have OneDrive for Business and Word 2016 (Version 16.0.6001.1043).

    With this version the problem remains the same.
