Word 2016 hangs when opening a document based on a template

I store my documents in:

OneDrive\Shared Documents\Business

and my templates in

OneDrive\Shared Documents\Templates

As I've done for over a year.

All worked fine in Office / Word 2013

Word 2016 will hang if I try and open a document that is based on a template.

The templates are available.

I've tried renaming the templates and removing spaces in the names but that didn't help.

If I remove the template the document will open and show as based on Normal.dotx.

All templates and documents use the new 2016 file format and are saved as .dotx.

Please note:

I'd rather you didn't reply to this issue if you haven't actually experienced this problem or if you haven't actually tried the fix you propose.

    Dear all,

For the ones who still face the problem, if you are using a personal template on OneDrive, you can avoid the issue before saving the document for the first time, by modifying the link to the template, through the tab Developer/Template.

There you can attached a template from the User directory, usually I take normal.dotm.

Waiting now the fix by MS.

    Kind regards,

    Yves

Thank you for the suggestion.  I do not use a custom template, however.  The files I am trying to open are based on the normal.dotm template.

Updating to the latest version of Office (1038) and installing the big November update to Windows 10 appears to have resolved the issue for me.

It seems like last update fixed my issue (rel 16.0.6001.1038).

Did it do the same for yours?

Yes! After the latest Windows 10 update, the problem of hanging while opening Word or Excel documents has resolved.

No, the problem has not been resolved.  I must have opened a document from my own OneDrive (which works fine) and was too excited to notice.  Opening an Excel or Word document from OneDrive accounts shared with me (my boss's, for example) still results in the program hanging. Apologies.
