As encouraged by Microsoft, I have created and use an alias attached/linked to my primary outlook.com. For years, it has been impossible to send e-mail from the alias using the Outlook Win32/64 client. I have to go to Outlook.com in order to do so.
I have just installed the Office 2016 Preview and am severely disappointed to find that I cannot send from the alias within the new client.
Am I incorrect? Is it actually possible to send from ******@outlook.com rather than ******@outlook.com?

I have just installed the Office 2016 Preview and am severely disappointed to find that I cannot send from the alias within the new client.
It's a work in progress in conjunction with the move of Outlook.com to the Exchange Online platform. Once that is completed and your account has been migrated, sending from an alias address will be possible without any additional configuration in Outlook 2010 or later.
Until then, you can configure the alias as an additional POP3 account and configure it for sending only.
This is still not solved. I am really thinking to move towards the G* option. Can at least someone explain the rationale behind this? Both domains belong to me and I cannot send "from" my alternate domain address?
I have been told by someone that I did not have to upgrade to premium for this to work.
So I don't know if this will work or not but give this a shot...
Please let me know if this works. It does for me but a tech told me I had to upgrade to Premium for it to work. Someone else told me you don't have to do that. He said all Premium does is get rid of the ads.
If it works I'm calling Microsoft and dumping Outlook.com Premium
Could you expand on this at all, I can't get this working.
Here is what I have tried...
I have an outlook.com account and outlook 2016 installed on my PC.
I have added an alias to the outlook.com account. This works fine within outlook.com. However, my desktop outlook 2016 does not see the alias when sending an email using the 'From' drop down menu.
If I set the alias as the default or primary, then delete the account from Outlook 2016 and add it again then I can send email as the long outlook_EAS************_outlook.com address but not the alias, which is an external domain not a Microsoft one.
I have tried creating another outlook.com account with another alias from my domain, but this does exactly the same thing.
I've gave up. Never succeed.
If you would like to try it, Yandex provides free custom domain private email system, which may meet your needs. And you could just login your new email inside Outlook.com or Outlook 2016 through IMAP protocol.
I'm currently using Thunderbird to replace Outlook 2016. It works great and has better support to OpenPGP.

I had to make my alias my primary address in outlook.com. It still does not really work right, but I can send email from my personal domain email address now, but Microsoft now says they will not support this forever (even though they said they would during the data migration to Office 360).
