Phantom Drop down boxes in excel 2016

I use lots of data validation drop down list and recently some phantom boxes have been appearing in my spreadsheets.  You can select the grey arrow but the list is empty.  You then select the cell to get the correct data validation list, which appears to overlay the the box.  Can anyone help?  I created a new spreadsheet from scratch and it appeared to have fixed it but today i opened the spreadsheet and once again i have phantom drop down lists!!!

I removed all the data validation from the cell and it still remained!

Can anyone help?

    I invite everyone in this thread, and anyone just reading this thread to contact tech support and harass them. This case is still stuck in pending escalation and has been that way since 03/04/2016. I posted another case # for the case, but the escalated case # you will want to refer when you harass Microsoft Support to take this issue more seriously and patch Excel and patch is <Case number removed for privacy>.

    Let's get Microsoft to patch this issue once and for all.

    GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!!!!! I finally got this escalated to the top level tech support. I gave them details how to replicate the problem. They now recognize it is NOT a glitch in our comptuers or our installations. IT WILL BE PATCHED! WOOHOO!! There is a patch about to roll out and it won't be in that patch, but expect it shortly after that. 

    It took perseverance and a lot of shaking the tree, but it got done. Let's hope the fix comes out very soon.

    Work arounds are not fixes to the software. The software has a bug and it needs to be patched.
