Can't see "Save" button in File Save / Save As dialog box in Word on MacBook Pro 13"

I (unfortunately) installed Yosemite 10.10.3 on an older MacBook Pro. Y uses up way too much RAM. Had to buy a newer, faster M B Pro. Now, on the new machine, if I do a File Save or File Save As procedure in Word (for Office 2011), I cannot see the "Save" button that should be down in the lower right corner. I can still hit "Enter," and it works, and if I need to Cancel I found I can hit the Escape key.

But is there a way to make it visible again? (Someone suggested changing Display Screen Resolution, resizing the Save window, then reverting back to the original Resolution setting, but that doesn't work - at least not for me.) (I have a similar problem in Excel but I can do a Window Arrange and choose "Vertical" and it's good.)

If any of you guys are still having an issue with the Save and Cancel buttons disappearing off the bottom of the screen when using Save As in either Word or Excel, then the following should solve it for you:

With the Save as dialogue window open do the following:

  1. Hold down the Shift key
  2. Resize the Save As dialogue window from the right, dragging left, and the window will resize proportionally i.e. the bottom will come up

Normal resizing left or right only resizes those dimensions, until you hold the Shift key down!

Try this if you don't see any main menu items at top of screen you maybe Full screen mode

  1. First try hitting the esc Key see if items return.
  2. Next hold down Option key while clicking the green stoplight button see if items return.

To adjust window to size in Yosemite 10.10.3 do as follow with Office 2011 only:

  1. hold down Option key:
  2. Click on green stoplight button

Notice it has a + sign this indicates you can resize window 3. Now go down to bottom right corner and move up, down, left, right, or diagonally to adjust window to desired size. 4. If you need to and can get to top of window, click and drag down, open left or right to center on screen.

If you do not hold option key down this is what stoplight buttons look like:

Notice in the green light. It has changed from a + to two arrows pointing away from each other at 45º angle.

This is Full screen indicator click once (without option key down) and goes to full screen display.

Click again (without option key held down) and it returns to normal display. 

If this does not help , return and we will give you direction on how to correct window that is to large for display.

SOLUTION:  Don't know how/why but this works. Hover over the left edge of the panel until the little horizontal line with arrows at both ends appears. Hold the Shift button while clicking down on your mouse or mouse pad and drag the box in. It will shrink and there they are!!! No clue why but this happens to me all the time and this remedy is a lifesaver. Used to have to do major work arounds.

Tried changing screen resolution in System Preferences > Displays? Click on the Display tab at the top and enable "Scaled."

I would change the resolution, start Word and quit, then change it back.

Also do a Finder's "Get Info" on Microsoft Word. I think there used to be a resolution setting there only visible in Retina models.

    I have submitted my fix a long time ago but it is not worth going back that far to find it.

    Do the following:

    1. Click on the caret symbol (^) and the window shrinks and offers an abbreviated choice of saves.
    2. Click on it again and the original window appears but at the top of the screen making the SAVE / CANCEL buttons appear. 
    3. BEFORE making your choice, raise the now viewable bottom of the window up a couple of inches.

          Remember that the window is now raised to the top of the screen. The next time you use the SAVE AS option 

          the window will appear lower where it usually is.

    THE GOOD NEWS IS, the app remembers that you resized the window and the bottom will now be visible.

    The bad news is, sometimes it reverts to the larger window but you simply do the steps above and it will work for a while until it forgets. Each time this happens, it seems to remember longer and longer. I haven't had this problem in months.

    Resizing the window by raising the bottom is the key to making this work. Most other suggestions do not mention this last step. If Microsoft doesn't fix the problem, I don't understand why they don't post this simple fix on their FAQ site.
