switching between worksheets in Excel 2016 on Mac

Does anyone know how can I switch between different open worksheets in Excel 2016 on Mac with a keyboard shortcut? 

It does not seem to work as it did in previous version or the way it works on Windows unfortunately.

Or is there a way to have two different Excels open on Mac simultaneously?

Just hit  "Command + ~", thats work for me

Office 2016 version 15.12.3 (150724)

While i have been using excel for over 25 years, only within the last two months have I been using it on a Mac.  Clearly, excel is a much more robust program on a PC then a Mac. 

Since using MSFT office (excel) on the Mac, the only way I found to switch between work books was CTRL + Tab works.  Yesterday I installed Office 365 and while CTRL + Tab no longer works, CMD + ~ will switch between works books.

This rambling thread has intermixed feedback from many users over an extended period of time. It refers to numerous update levels of Office 2016 (most of which now are obsolete) running on 2 different editions of OS X and the comments jump between 3 different aspects of "switching";

  • Switching between application windows,
  • Switching between open workbook windows, &
  • Switching between worksheets within a workbook

In order to address a current issue it always is best to submit a new message stating all factors pertinent to your situation rather than adding to another conversation. In that way you can avoid getting tangles up in the melee. In fact, new postings to Answered questions often go unseen altogether.

Also, "Office 365" is not a version of the Microsoft Office software, it's Microsoft;s marketing name for their software subscription service. Make sure to indicate your actual version of Office as well as its specific update level.

    Yes, I'm sure you have... I didn't mean to imply otherwise :-). In fact, if you still have O2011 installed you'll see that Ctrl+Tab continues to work the same way in Excel 2011, which is predominantly Carbon-based. Perhaps I didn't clearly state my point :-) which is that Ctrl+Tab is not & hasn't been a keyboard shortcut specific to Excel. In Carbon-based programs it seems that Ctrl+Tab & Cmd+` do the same thing: In Cocoa-based programs they appear to have differing assignments.

    My impression is that it is a matter of Excel 2016 being entirely Cocoa-based. It appears to me that OS X defaults Ctrl+Tab to cycling between open Tabs of Tabbed windows in programs which support them (e.g., browsers) - which neither Office 2011 nor Office 2016 do.

    The net result - AFAICT - is that in programs that don't support Tabbed windows Ctrl+Tab does virtually nothing productive. In Excel 2016, for example, if you watch closely you'll see that it may shift focus to the New Sheet (+) button, go on to the Mode indicator [Ready], then repeated presses cycle through the controls on the Quick Access Toolbar & eventually wind up in the Search Sheet control (where it stops dead). [Perhaps that's what Jim meant by "different screen elements".] I say "may" because it's rather unpredictable & activates nothing other than Search Sheet even when the cycling occurs.

    Command+` OTOH reliably cycles through open windows in all programs.

    Thanks guys!

    And yes Jim, I think of all us mean Workbooks since it´s multiple excel files open at the same time.

    Looks like there is no real solution for this problem. I´m certainly not proficient in VBA so that´s a dead end.
