Excel (Office 365): Program works, but splash screen won't disappear

Recently, I noticed that when I open Excel for Office 365, the program opens and runs fine, but the splash screen doesn't disappear. It remains in the background once the program starts. Other windows open on top of it, it's just annoying that it won't go away. I can minimize and and move it around, but that's it. I unchecked the box next to "Show the start screen when this application starts", but it still shows up. Updating Office also didn't help. It only seems to be a problem with Excel as neither Word nor PowerPoint has this issue.

I'm sorry that you were encountering this issue and for any inconvenience it may have caused.

This issue was occurring if you had disabled the "Show start screen" (to show a new blank workbook in Excel on boot) and had any add-in enabled.

We have addressed this issue in the latest release of Excel which is now available through Update.

    Hello.

    I am from the Excel Desktop Test Team.  This issue was brought to my attention through the Excel feedback.  I will work with you to repro and resolve this issue.

    I have read through all comments and one thing was never mentioned.  What is your OS (major and minor version)?  From the picture on page 1 by AnaloJack, is it Windows10.  Have people encountered this issue outside of Win10?   If you are using Win10.10586.xxxx, can I get you to update the display link driver on your system?  http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=2  Win10.10586 was shipped with a bad driver and corrupted memory thus causing random features to not function correctly (ie random crash/freeze, slow performance, copy/paste doesn't work, corrupts files, etc.)

    Another option (which was not mentioned) you can start Excel w/o the splash screen (execute excel /e). 

    Please perform either one of these two options and let me know your results.

    I have Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1 on an Intel I7 3770K machine with 32 GB DDR3. Graphics card is AMD Radeon R9 290x w/8 GB GDDR5 with the latest drivers.  Starting Excel with the /e switch works, of course, but I don't think I really want to start Excel from a separate shortcut.  Adding the /e switch in registry in HKCR\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open did nothing.  And as mentioned before, at least in my case, the persistent splash screen only occurs on blank worksheets (Book1) or any xlsx spreadsheet.  It does not happen one macro-enabled (xlsm) sheets.

    Hello Thao,

    You are correct that my system is a Windows 10 system, and does have the build you mention, but I am not comfortable downloading drivers from sites with which I am not familiar.  If this update is available via Windows Update (which it should be), let me know how to get it and I'll try that update.

    I appreciate the alternate startup suggestion, but would much rather see a fix.  Rather than having to update all my shortcuts, I can just open the "options" or "save as>Browse"

    dialog, and the splash screen will go away.  This is much easier than changing the links to all my Excel files.

    Unlike Bill3rdMaw, the problem happens for me on any file I open.  The only time it does not happen is if I have disabled all add-ins.  Enabling any add-in causes the problem to reappear.
