Excel (Office 365): Program works, but splash screen won't disappear

Recently, I noticed that when I open Excel for Office 365, the program opens and runs fine, but the splash screen doesn't disappear. It remains in the background once the program starts. Other windows open on top of it, it's just annoying that it won't go away. I can minimize and and move it around, but that's it. I unchecked the box next to "Show the start screen when this application starts", but it still shows up. Updating Office also didn't help. It only seems to be a problem with Excel as neither Word nor PowerPoint has this issue.

I'm sorry that you were encountering this issue and for any inconvenience it may have caused.

This issue was occurring if you had disabled the "Show start screen" (to show a new blank workbook in Excel on boot) and had any add-in enabled.

We have addressed this issue in the latest release of Excel which is now available through Update.

    It appears that any add-in causes the problem.  I unchecked all add-ins, and the problem went away.  I only use 3 add-ins.  I checked each one individually, and in each case, the problem returned.  The 3 add-ins I use are:

    Analysis ToolPak

    Analysis ToolPak - VBA

    Solver Add-in

    Since each of them individually had the problem, I didn't bother checking combinations.

    On screen shot I can see SOLVER.XLAM, Solver Add-In is causing the issue.

    Thank you, but I would have to disagree since my last reply (per your request) shows that any add-in causes the problem.  If your assessment was correct, then the problem would have gone away when I disabled that add-in, but it appeared with each add-in when they were the only add-in enabled.

    1. When only "Analysis ToolPak" is enabled, the splash screen reads "Calculating: (4 Processors(s)): 100%" - and it is still stuck
    2. When only "Analysis ToolPak - VBA" is enabled, the splash screen reads "Opening FUNCRES.XLAM (100%)" - and it is still stuck.
    3. When only "Solver Add-in" is enabled, the splash screen reads "Opening: SOLVER.XLAM (100%)" - and it is still stuck.

    Apparently, it just sticks on the last thing it does before opening the main screen, and SOLVER.XLAM was the last add-in it activated for that screen shot.  After reactivating the other 2 add-ins, on 3 subsequent launches, it displayed something different each time, once displaying "Opening: " plus the name of the file I just opened, another time displaying "Opening: ATPVBAEN.XLAM (100%)", and another time displaying the directory name containing the file that was opened.

    This is just an outright Excel bug that has emerged in a recent Excel 2016 upgrade. My company provides an Excel add-in and our clients now think that our add-in is causing this problem, which is very frustrating for us. The reality is that it happens whenever any add-in is loaded when Excel loads.

    The Excel splash screen stays in view until a dialog is opened within Excel.

    Hopefully Microsoft can fix this bug ASAP as it's a very unprofessional look.
