Excel (Office 365): Program works, but splash screen won't disappear

Recently, I noticed that when I open Excel for Office 365, the program opens and runs fine, but the splash screen doesn't disappear. It remains in the background once the program starts. Other windows open on top of it, it's just annoying that it won't go away. I can minimize and and move it around, but that's it. I unchecked the box next to "Show the start screen when this application starts", but it still shows up. Updating Office also didn't help. It only seems to be a problem with Excel as neither Word nor PowerPoint has this issue.

I'm sorry that you were encountering this issue and for any inconvenience it may have caused.

This issue was occurring if you had disabled the "Show start screen" (to show a new blank workbook in Excel on boot) and had any add-in enabled.

We have addressed this issue in the latest release of Excel which is now available through Update.

    I did not have that registry entry. I did, however, have something similar in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Excel\AddInLoadTimes\C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\Library\SOLVER\SOLVER.XLAM. I changed it to ...OLD with no effect.

    Hi Thao,

    I am using Win10.10586.218 (as shown below) but installing the DisplayLink program from you link has done nothing to resolve the issue.

    My concern over this issue is that my company sells a Microsoft Excel add-in and our customers are now (understandably) assuming that we're causing this splash screen issue because it arises as soon as they install our add-in. so simply switching off the splash screen really isn't a solution for us.

    Any further assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, M.

    Hi Prince,

    This issue has nothing to do with the Solver add-in, as it can be reproduced using a new empty add-in (steps provided in a prior post).

    If you guys would like to start a discussion about an issue with the Solver add-in please do so in a separate thread as this one is already messy enough without more irrelevant noise.
