Excel (Office 365): Program works, but splash screen won't disappear

Recently, I noticed that when I open Excel for Office 365, the program opens and runs fine, but the splash screen doesn't disappear. It remains in the background once the program starts. Other windows open on top of it, it's just annoying that it won't go away. I can minimize and and move it around, but that's it. I unchecked the box next to "Show the start screen when this application starts", but it still shows up. Updating Office also didn't help. It only seems to be a problem with Excel as neither Word nor PowerPoint has this issue.

I'm sorry that you were encountering this issue and for any inconvenience it may have caused.

This issue was occurring if you had disabled the "Show start screen" (to show a new blank workbook in Excel on boot) and had any add-in enabled.

We have addressed this issue in the latest release of Excel which is now available through Update.

    1.Does this issue persists with all Add-Ins?

    1. What tis the version of Outlook are you using? Confirm the same by going to File>Office Account> and check under Office Updates.

    It's neither a viable option or a fix Bill. Excel must be able to support add-ins to function correctly.

    This is an outright bug in the current release of Excel 2016 that the MS development team need to fix. My guess is that it's something they've messed up when adding the "What's new in Excel?" pop-up dialog functionality in Excel 2016, which is resulting in the splash screen not being closed when there's nothing new to display. Although the fact that it happens only when add-ins are installed may deem this conclusion wrong.

    At first we thought it was our company's add-in causing it, but we now know that having any add-ins installed results in this issue.

    It's a fairly embarrassing bug for MS and I really hope they fix it very soon, as companies like mine rely on people having faith in the quality of the core MS Office apps.

    How is removing add-ins considered a viable option or fix? Some formulas will not work without add-ins. This would be like my taking my car to the dealer with a complaint that my car doesn't work while the air conditioning is working and the dealer telling me not to use the air conditioning.
