OneNote (OSX) Language Proofing

Its been a known bug for a while now and still not resolved after many one note iterations. Though I found a way out for macOS. add your preferred keyboard to the system and just switch the keyboard before you start writing or editing the one note page. I know it is not the nest or most convenient solution but it is much better than to set proofing language for every text box you create on a page.

Microsoft clearly does not have any interest in listening to and responding user requests, interests, and usage patterns.

OneNote for Mac:

i. Can't set the default proofing language--regardless of keyboard layout.

ii. No offline storage.

iii. Does not provide mac users the ability to directly open or import .one or .one2 files.

Microsoft is trying to lock in users to a Windows only platform, which will, IMHO, be their undoing... for which I can only say good riddance. The company moved computing forward for many years, but its best before date has expired.

We are looking at adding a default proofing language option so that once you set it all future pages will use that. If you want to have that please go vote here.

Today you can change the proofing language for an entire page by selecting the page (or selecting multiple pages) on the page list, then opening the proofing UI from the tools menu.

Also when you are typing in a paragraph and hit ENTER in the same outline we don't change the proofing language, if you use the down arrow then we do revert back to the default.

Ryan, this answer is unacceptable garbage.

This is a bug. It's not something that needs an "improvement". It needs FIXING***.*** Please stop lying to your customers and actually do something about it.

MacOS has a settings panel for configuring preferred languages: System Preferences -> Language & Region -> Preferred Languages.

MacOS also has an API for retrieving these languages: NSSpellChecker.availableLanguages

But instead of using the supported API, your genius engineers decided to try to infer the proofing language from the keyboard layout instead!?

It blows my mind that, not only do you hire engineers so utterly incompetent and ignorant to create your software, but that your QA and management are so equally incompetent that:

1. They don't catch the bug before release.
2. When it's pointed out, they don't even accept it is a bug.
3. They leave it unfixed for years.
4. They suggest voting for an "improvement" that won't even address the underlying bug; it'll just provide a workaround.

We don't need a workaround. We need you to tell your engineers to take a 101 introduction to macOS programming and use the correct APIs.

I'm a Windows user and I have the same problem on my PC.  I use several languages. Although my main language is Dutch and this is also the preferred language on my computer, certain OneNote books are based on a different language, mostly English and I can't change it. It's extremely annoying! Iris

After reading all this, it seems to me the problem lies with Microsoft indeed. I agree with JonRimmer: fix the problem! Not by making inflexible OneNote books, but by making it easy to change language in OneNote whenever you want, per page, per alinea or per book. Iris
