KB2553154 Breaks COM and Active X controls in Excel

Hi

The last windows update batch contained update KB2553154 for office 32 bit.

This update breaks all COM and Active x controls in Excel (i.e. buttons, combo boxes etc.). Like many businesses we use Excel with these controls extensively and this update is crippling Excel for our users.

We have installed and uninstalled it on a number of machines both Windows 7 and Windows 8 and have proved this update is causing the issue.

PLEASE Microsoft withdraw or fix this update we can hardly go around all our pc's worldwide and manually uninstalling it.

Quit Excel.

Start Windows Explorer.

Select the system drive (usually C:).

Use the Search box to search for *.exd

Delete all found files.

I know that this is way beyond when you posted this but I was able to fix this problem by updating Microsoft Office to the latest service pack. Then installing excel2010-kb2956142-fullfile-x86-glb.exe for Office 2010 andexcel2013-kb2956145-fullfile-x86-glb.exe for Office 2013. Hope this might help out someone else out there trying to figure out this problem.  Also this page has some information on fixes as well. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3017349

    I still have the problem after deleting all the EXD files.. Have i missed something?

    I'd like to share a working (temporary) solution for Windows 7 and Office 2007 with you:

    1. Close all running Office applications
    2. Locate and delete all *.exd files in C:\Users and the profile subdirectories
    3. Uninstall Office 2007 update KB2596927
    4. Reboot your machine
    5. Install Office 2007 update KB2596927 again
    6. Open Excel and check if COM and ActiveX controls are working again

    Successfully tested on two machines in our company.

    I hope Microsoft will release a patch for this problem asap.

    Thank you.  When I visited the URL yesterday evening and posted my previous message, the content on Article ID: 3025036 was blanked out. - The blue title bar was there, but was just empty / didn't list the issue to be resolved. Similarly, no other content was visible on the page except for the standard feedback questions at the bottom.

    Anyway, after following the links back to that page from a number of different articles on the web and still finding it blank, I submitted the previous message and also filled out the feedback portion at the bottom of the blank page.  I'm guessing someone kicked the web server's database....  (Thank you to unknown fixer.)
