In PowerPoint 2013, in the presentation I'm creating, the thumbnails view doesn't show the thumbnails, but instead displays a large red X on every slide. The slides look fine in the slide view itself.
Diagnosis and recommendations welcome.

I just ran Description of the PowerPoint 2013 update:
October 8, 2013 https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817625 - the computer was already up to date and the red x issue still present.
For some reason I have found that searching doesn't always find it even though I can see it!
Try checking down the list manually (there won't be many for PowerPoint) or maybe select the first 2013 update and then search for KB2817625

I have tried looking at installed updates manually and still unable to find it. However as mentioned previously we no longer have the problem with Red X on slide thumbnails in PowerPoint 2013 after installing all Windows updates for Microsoft Office 2013 the problem was resolved.

This update looks like it only works on standalone PowerPoint 2013 and Home&Student 2013 versions. Is there a similar update for Home and Business 2013? When I run this one it says "There are no products affected by this package installed on this system". I have PowerPoint 2013, but it is apart of Office H&B 2013.

We are using Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013. I have tried to install this update manually 'The update is already installed on this system.'
I have searched Installed Updates and unable to find KB2817625.
Make sure your Windows Update is set to 'You receive updates: For Windows and other products from Microsoft Update' and then 'Check for updates' again.
We came across this problem in PowerPoint 2013. After installing all Windows updates for Microsoft Office 2013 the problem was resolved. The update which fixed the problem is KB2817625
