Red X on slide thumbnails in Master View

In PowerPoint 2013, in the presentation I'm creating, the thumbnails view doesn't show the thumbnails, but instead displays a large red X on every slide. The slides look fine in the slide view itself.

Diagnosis and recommendations welcome.

    We have ditched 2013 altogether until it's fixed but we are in the happy situation of also having 2010.

    Hi John,

    That is very very interesting to hear you say that.  Please do let us know when (if) you do adopt ppt2013.  Do MS keep you informed as and when they fix these issues?  Or are you as in the dark as the rest of us?

    That does look different. I suspect if you had managed to save as it would be a type 2.

    We have ditched 2013 altogether until it's fixed but we are in the happy situation of also having 2010.

    Thanks John, but I must then have a third problem as my thumbnails have red crosses and the slides are NOT OK.

    I'll try to include an image below, which shows my problem:

    In this screenshot you can see a red cross on one of the thumbnails and graphical elements are missing or misplaced on the slide (the slide has a stacked bar chart, which is completely missing on the slide and partly missing in the thumbnail) - and the text boxes are misplaced in the slide.

    In addition, PPT2013 crashed a second after this screendump was taken when I clicked the File-menu... :-(

    Hi Allan

    There are TWO different problems (for some users)

    1. Thumbnails show a redX but slides are OK
    2. Presentation becomes Read Only and Images disappear (replaced by redX and message that Rid cannot be found.)

    I can only tell you that Microsoft are aware of both and hopefully there will be a solution. Intermittant bugs are the hardest though!

    I have this problem too. A relative large .pptx file (236 slides, 38MB file size, lots of embedded Excel). If PPT2013 doesn't crash within a couple of minutes of working with this file (see below though) it most certainly displays red crosses across the mini-versions of the slides and some graphic details are missing from the main slides (I can't show screen-dumps as the slides contain confidential information).

    I've tried safe mode and disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Safe mode didn't do anything but disabling the hardware graphics acceleration seems to have stopped the crashing of PPT2013.

    The same file works fine in PPT2010.
