Can't open doc - says moved, renamed or deleted

I am trying to open a document in Word but a dialogue box keeps telling me:

"Sorry, we couldn't find your file.  Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?"

It then states the correct name of the document and where I filed it.

I am using Windows 8

Microsoft 365 and Office | Word | For home | Windows

    How are you trying to open the files that you moved? If you are clicking an item in a list of recent files, note that those shortcuts will reference the old paths (that is, they won't update automatically).

    The problem seems to be when I attach a file to a word document.  I think the computer deletes the file due to my anti-virus program.  This is a Xmas letter I created using word and attached a picture to it.  I was able to print it once but then saved it and now cannot open it.  HELP

    From which location are you trying to add the attachment?

    If the antivirus program flags the file, then it is most likely the antivirus program that deletes the file (or puts it in quarantine). Have you looked at your antivirus settings?

    NEVER open a Word document that is located on a USB drive OR save a Word document directly to a USB Drive.

    Corruption of the document is an almost certain consequence and in most cases it is so catastrophic that it is not possible to recover anything from the document.

    If you have a document that you cannot open, if you send it to me by e-mail, referencing this thread in the covering message, I will see if anything can be recovered from it.   

    If the document is too large to attach to an email message, upload a copy of it to the following folder of my OneDrive

    and send me an email so that I know that it is there
