Can't open doc - says moved, renamed or deleted

I am trying to open a document in Word but a dialogue box keeps telling me:

"Sorry, we couldn't find your file. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?"

It then states the correct name of the document and where I filed it.

I am using Windows 8

Im trying to open the document from the recent list within the Word application.
When opening a document from the recent list fails, the underlying cause is usually that the document is no longer in that location, or the location in unavailable for some reason.

Are you able to double-click the icon for a Word document and have it open properly?

Go to the Onedrive website, check the recycle bin, and hopefully it's there to restore.

Which version of Office are you running? Note that you can always reinstall Office 365 via your Office account at www.office.com/myaccount. If you have another type of installation, or an older version, go to https://products.office.com/en-us/download-back-up-restore-microsoft-office-products (you'll need your product key).
