Can't open doc - says moved, renamed or deleted

I am trying to open a document in Word but a dialogue box keeps telling me:

"Sorry, we couldn't find your file.  Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?"

It then states the correct name of the document and where I filed it.

I am using Windows 8

Microsoft 365 and Office | Word | For home | Windows

    Download the document to your local drive and see if you can open it from there.

    Are you trying to open the document from the list of recent files?

    Where was the document saved? To the local hard drive or to OneDrive (or some other cloud storage)?

    1. Does the issue occurs with specific document or with all the saved documents in the Computer?
    2. Where is the file located in the Computer?
    3. Are you trying to open the document from the recent list within the Word application?
