Can't open doc - says moved, renamed or deleted

I am trying to open a document in Word but a dialogue box keeps telling me:

"Sorry, we couldn't find your file.  Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?"

It then states the correct name of the document and where I filed it.

I am using Windows 8

Microsoft 365 and Office | Word | For home | Windows

    The problem seems to be when I attach a file to a word document.  I think the computer deletes the file due to my anti-virus program.  This is a Xmas letter I created using word and attached a picture to it.  I was able to print it once but then saved it and now cannot open it.  HELP

    How are you trying to open the files that you moved? If you are clicking an item in a list of recent files, note that those shortcuts will reference the old paths (that is, they won't update automatically).

    hi 

    I've cleaned up my system and just moved some files to a new folder. now it saying that I cant open it course it been moved renamed or deleted. all I did was drag the files into the new folder.

    I have the same problem and yes, I emailed it as a document to myself from a school computer and opened it on our home laptop, so it came as a download. I saved it multiple times, clicking the save icon and waiting for it to stop loading the save and then pressing it again, but it still did not save the part of my document that I completed on said laptop. Can I do anything about this?

    Finally figured this out on my system. The file path was more than 256 characters.

    Try renaming the folders containing the files or renaming the file itself.
