I am trying to open a document in Word but a dialogue box keeps telling me:
"Sorry, we couldn't find your file. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?"
It then states the correct name of the document and where I filed it.

SOLVED | Per a previous comment I renamed the xls file to a shorter name and it opened. Odd this was an issue considering I was working off this file for the past couple weeks, but regardless happy this is now working.
When you open a file directly from an email attachment, it is saved in a temporary folder. Unless you explicitly save the file to your Documents folder (preferably before you start working on it at all), you are in danger of losing it. Sometimes it is possible to retrieve files saved in temporary folders. The instructions provided by MVP Beth Melton in this thread have been helpful to many users.
Can you browse to the folder using the File Explorer? If so, is the document in the folder? If so, from within Word, use File>Open and navigate to that folder and then select the document.
issue occurs with specific document and is located in a folder on my desktop and I have also tried to open in a recent list, nothing works
