Can't open doc - says moved, renamed or deleted

I am trying to open a document in Word but a dialogue box keeps telling me:

"Sorry, we couldn't find your file.  Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?"

It then states the correct name of the document and where I filed it.

I am using Windows 8

Microsoft 365 and Office | Word | For home | Windows

    If you use File>Open in Word and navigate to the My Documents folder and select the document and then click on Open, what happens?  Is there any error message?

    The issue occurs with a specific document

    The file is located in Word in My Documents

    It is not in the recent list of Documents

    Since the problem appears to be with double-clicking the files to open them, try repairing Office from Control Panel. See https://support.office.com/en-us/Article/Repair-an-Office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b?omkt=en-US.

    I have similar problems

    I have noted that the problem only shows up if there is an .xlsx or .docx file that I did not create myself, but only when someone else created the file

    I can see the file, I can click on the file then crashes Word or Excel

    Word files can I right-click in Windows Explorer and choosing edit then it works in Word

    System Win10 Office 2013 Pro Swe

    I had faced a similar issue. And realized this happened only on files which were open when i had put the laptop to hibernate...

    once the pc was restarted the files were ok...

    Where were these problem files stored? Locally on the computer or on removable media such as a flash drive?
