I have a solution for this problem IF you are using Server 2012, or got someting to do with multiple accounts with restrictions. Yes for me this was a right problem(NTFS rights) on the C:\ drive.
Somehow Office needs to write or read or do something on the C:\ drive. As i am very precise with limiting users from accessing the C:\ drive i also put some restrictions on the C:\ DRIVE. When i put my (In my case it is a RDP user) user in the administrators
group AND removed the user from his old restricted group(where all the GPO's are applied) it worked!
I did this because the "Run as administrator" options resulted in a restricted share error, that did ring a bell.
So for my case this has simply to do with rights, re installation could be a workaround, why?:
These restrictions(on the C:\ Drive) were applied after the installation of Office and not before that's why it resulted in a error.
For the lazy one's(that hate reading and just want a solution):
- Right click on the C:\ Drive(or office map)
- Properties
- Security
- Edit
- Add
- Your GPO group or everyone, or the username
- Read rights would be sufficient
