No local file storage for OneNote on Mac version?

I just tried OneNote for a Mac.

I noticed that there is no way to load or save a local OneNote file.

I've been using OneNote on a PC for years. Really like it a lot. Was hoping to

now use it on my Mac.  

I don't know why OneNote is setup this way. I can't even load my existing personal

files from the Mac.  The decision to use a cloud service should be mine and not forced into

it. Even Evernote lets me store locally.

I use it for both personal and work related projects. I cannot put work projects out on

a public cloud repository so this new version is a no go for work. At this point I think

I'll look at Mac equivalents to OneNote and convert to something else.....

Free is great, but I would pay for a fully functional Mac version of OneNote. Please reconsider

local file storage.

Disappointed.

    So.  Basically this is bloatware that doesn't do anything?  Other than try to connect your machine to another cloud service?  It doesn't even sound like this version is worth the 20 minute download!  Free?  Really...  That is M$ saving grace?  They can put out crappy software that doesn't do what a consumer wants (I mean, really, who did they ask what a 'consumer' would want?  I don't remember getting any feedback request, I for sure wouldn't have said "Please M$ hold my feet down and tie my hands so I cannot do anything but look at this pink POS splash on my screen!") and instead restricts it so that my enterprise environment still cannot use it.  

    I love my Mac, I love my Debian laptop.  I cannot wait to delete my winblows VM....  Boo on you M$, boo. on. you.

    As mentioned by others, there are many reasons why local files would be desirable.

    In my case, I wouldn't mind transferring my old OneNote notebooks to OneDrive but the problem is how?  When I upload my old OneNote files to OneDrive, the new OneNote for Mac doesn't seem to recognize the files.

    Shouldn't there at least be a way to convert or import old One Note notebooks?  Or am I simply missing something?

    I have been waiting for the mac version to be available for ages.  Now that it is it forces me to store my notes in the clouds?  I have my own way to sync the notes locally.  My notes are very personal to me and I'm not comfortable storing them in the clouds.

    Thanks for the response. The files can't be shared for business reasons. Hence, my need to work on local files. What are the reasons why the Windows version can do this but the Mac version can't?

    My guess is that this is a quick "get it out there quick" by the new CEO, and that we can expect a more full-fledges product when Office 2014 for Mac rolls out. Said differently, I think we can liken this to a public beta, with the full version coming with an Office 365 sub later this year. Perhaps not ideal, but an infinite improvement over life just a few weeks ago when OneNote for Mac didn't exist.

    Putting company documents on OneDrive is not an option.

    Also, when you are on the move and don't have 'net access, having them on OneDrive isn't very useful...

    You say the "free version of OneNote for Mac", where can I get the paid for version?

    I've been using it on a PC for years and showed it to my boss, he has it on his Mac and I constantly get asked how he can do things the Windows version can do. Telling him that the Mac version is inferior and cannot do something is NOT an answer I can give!
