I just tried OneNote for a Mac.
I noticed that there is no way to load or save a local OneNote file.
I've been using OneNote on a PC for years. Really like it a lot. Was hoping to
now use it on my Mac.
I don't know why OneNote is setup this way. I can't even load my existing personal
files from the Mac. The decision to use a cloud service should be mine and not forced into
it. Even Evernote lets me store locally.
I use it for both personal and work related projects. I cannot put work projects out on
a public cloud repository so this new version is a no go for work. At this point I think
I'll look at Mac equivalents to OneNote and convert to something else.....
Free is great, but I would pay for a fully functional Mac version of OneNote. Please reconsider
local file storage.
Disappointed.

I have purchased an awesome Surface Pro 3 for work but I have an old Mac for home and onenote takes ages to sync with the cloud with my mac. Why can't I store locally on my MacBook Pro? I pay for 365. Onenote is amazing. Changed the way I work but this limitation on Mac sucks.

I have just purchased Office 365 Home. I loaded the applications. I still cannot access .one files from the corporate sharepoint server. I get the error "onenote cannot open this type of file."
Next, I (still) cannot create local files on the MAC in OneNote. I can create local files in word, excel, powerpoint.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My corporate security policy does not allow storage of company documents on unsupported third-party services.
I really hope this helps people. The solution I have found is to use VMware FUSION and Install Windows AND Office into the Virtual Machine. Albeit, you don't have to run ALL office products, just Onenote.
It runs smoothly on a 2009 Intel 21:9 Mac, so i assume it would not skip a beat on a newer model. There is other VMware software such as Virtual Box, but personally FUSION seems the most aesthetic and easy to use solution for me.
This of course, isn't optimal, but it does give me access to my Onenote Workbooks offline with MAC.
When I am done editing my Workbook (either on the pc or mac), i just copy and paste the workbook either into the relevant PC or Mac stored location (i.e. Documents/Onenote) and only 'merge' what i have changed. (i.e. Skip exact files).
And just to add, there IS NO JUSTIFICATION for MS to hold potentially invaluable previous notebooks to ransom by making them available only online. We have all seen the horror stories of SONY HACK and Apple iCloud hacks etc.
MS you really knocked it out of the park with OneNote, but I would rather pay for Onenote and have it kept private, than have a "free" (and i use that term reservedly) version that potentially puts my personal, work and university data at risk.....
It doesn't make sense to alienate your customer base this way and make US, the consumer, seek alternate measures to remain safe and at ease..
MS says it "listens" to its customers, then PLEASE, just this one Program/APP, leave it the way it was and put hundreds if not thousands or even millions of disgruntled users at ease.....
I basically do not use MS OFFICE ANYMORE at all (part from OneNote, because of this lack of consideration to its customer base. I feel its just a testing ground to see how much backlash MS will get, so they can plan to do the same to ALL PRODUCTS.....I have happily switched over to OPEN OFFICE....
I now use Fusion for other reasons, like securely running and testing Apps, but honestly, Onenote and its limitations on Mac Users was the catalyst for my decision to purchase it, and NOT a 365 subscription.
Spending the $95.95 AUD on Fusion to me, was better than the alternate risk of data corruption due to drop outs in WiFi etc, total loss and worse still, hacks.
