No local file storage for OneNote on Mac version?

I'm afraid MS could be missing out on a potentially large Mac user base if they do not address this issue.  I see that I'm replying to a post that is over two years old, and the issue still remains.  Please see what can be done to open OneNote up to Mac users who wish to use local files.

(this is not just an answer to you but to all who are constantly "threatening" Microsoft to lose users on OneNote if they don't *this* or *that*

You all are missing one point:

Microsoft has no strong interest in OneNote users at all. Why should they? It's completely free. They would sell probably not one Office 365 less if OneNote wasn't included.

They want cloud and service users, not OneNote users. So if you don't want / are allowed to use OneDrive / OneDrive for Business anyway, it does not matter if you will use OneNote or not.

I use OneNote with information that I cannot store in the cloud for regulatory reasons.

Likewise. My auditors and regulators would not be happy, to say the least.

Thanks for the feedback and in the free version of OneNote for Mac it only syncs to the cloud as you see.  Why don't you have your files in the cloud?  Without doing this you all cannot use your notes on other devices.  And the team is looking to add Office 365 & SharePoint sync for work users who cannot sync to OneDrive; right now it was more consumer focused.

As for local files there isn't yet a way to upload them to OneDrive yet, do you have a bunch of old files that you don't have open in OneNote that you can't upload?

I work for a financial institution and as such am regulated heavily on the use and transport of Nonpublic Information (NPI).  The amount of due diligence required to vet a cloud service makes it incredibly difficult to just "save it in the cloud." If a regulator found that I was casually saving NPI (particularly client information) in the cloud, it would be a bad day.  The ability for me to be able to save files locally is essential in allowing me to use OneNote - which I like. I hoped to work on a project at home, and while I don't have client information in my notebook, I still must save it locally to get it to my laptop. The cloud is not an option. One answer to the question:  Why are you not on the Cloud?

At my company, we use a variety of OneNote files for different purposes. We have a general knowledge base, QA has one, and different devs and projects have their own.

One of the features of the Windows version of OneNotes that we all appreciate, and need, is the ability to search across all open notebooks.

When the notebooks are on OneDrive or Sharepoint, the search feature only searches the current notebook, not all of them. 

At our company, we have PC users and we have MAC users. This might be different if the president wasn't one of those MAC users. We would be able to just use the Windows client. As it is, OneNote for MAC is just not usable for us. We need a real solution.

Please allow local and network OneNote documents (and other office documents) to be able to be opened, viewed and edited by OneNote for MAC.
