I just tried OneNote for a Mac.
I noticed that there is no way to load or save a local OneNote file.
I've been using OneNote on a PC for years. Really like it a lot. Was hoping to
now use it on my Mac.
I don't know why OneNote is setup this way. I can't even load my existing personal
files from the Mac. The decision to use a cloud service should be mine and not forced into
it. Even Evernote lets me store locally.
I use it for both personal and work related projects. I cannot put work projects out on
a public cloud repository so this new version is a no go for work. At this point I think
I'll look at Mac equivalents to OneNote and convert to something else.....
Free is great, but I would pay for a fully functional Mac version of OneNote. Please reconsider
local file storage.

Take a look at Outline. It doesn't have all of the same features but they are constantly improving it. Plus it opens all OneNote files!
I could not agree more. Just licensed office 365 for my Mac moved off a win7 and vista machine and while everything else works OneNote does not. Moved my one note files to my Mac but OneNote on Mac does mot recognize them!! Incredible. So off to find the replacement for OneNote. Not happy with Microsoft on this, but since I just dumped the Win OS after 26 years to go back to Mac I guess I should not be surprised. I would welcome a MSFT response here. I don't mind storing in the cloud but I work on a laptop, I read and surf on other devices. Going to the cloud to see my notes makes NO SENSE to me.
The problem with having to sync to the cloud at least for me, it's not so much a problem of having things in the 'cloud' some where. I am a heavy user of Dropbox after all, and have been for years.
My problem resides in my ISP. Not all of us have good Internet connections. Mine is intermitent at best, not available at worst (and the provider I have is amongst the most passable services in my area).
I would like to be able to access my notes and work on them even when my ISP is having one of its usual fits. I would pay for a OneNote able to store locally. I pay for Dropbox to keep everything in sync, and they allow me local copies of my files I can work with when my Internet is down. Then it syncs in the background without having to worry once the Internet decides to come back.
Please, please, please add a way to have a local version of my files on the mac to work with.
+1 for local storage of Notes.
For business reasons I can't store my business notes into Cloud Storage which will be against my corporate guidelines. Hence its very important to have the local storage capability for OneNote. I love MS OneNote and help me to be more productive. Unfortunately I am not able to use it for my business note which is where I need it badly.

Actually I'll reply to this again because I've just found that pasting from browsers doesn't actually work all the time. I've no idea why but I've just spent god knows how long trying to paste an internet article from Firefox into Onenote. Copy paste doesn't work, it pastes just the text and leaves the image out. Clip to Onenote applet ...well there's a laugh, it pastes a link and a small icon labelled 'web page' that does nothing.
So no, pasting images doesn't work just fine.
I'm off to use something else. If I can get the notes I finally got into Onenote into something else. Which seems unlikely. Useless piece of junk.
