I just tried OneNote for a Mac.
I noticed that there is no way to load or save a local OneNote file.
I've been using OneNote on a PC for years. Really like it a lot. Was hoping to
now use it on my Mac.
I don't know why OneNote is setup this way. I can't even load my existing personal
files from the Mac. The decision to use a cloud service should be mine and not forced into
it. Even Evernote lets me store locally.
I use it for both personal and work related projects. I cannot put work projects out on
a public cloud repository so this new version is a no go for work. At this point I think
I'll look at Mac equivalents to OneNote and convert to something else.....
Free is great, but I would pay for a fully functional Mac version of OneNote. Please reconsider
local file storage.

And, in fact, it's doubly hamstrung because you can't paste images into Onenote for Mac. Well, you can from a web browser but from any other OS X app image pasting simply doesn't work. There is simply no way to get prior data from any note taking app into Onenote for Mac.
why is there no local storage? Why must everything be in the cloud now? also, i notice that u can't even link word documents to one note notes on the mac version? why not? that's something i was easily able to do on the pc version.
I have the same issue. Certain work can't be stored in the cloud. I am a long time user of OneNote on PC. I too am disappointed.

I would say that there is actually a locally stored version or versions of OneNote for Mac. Try turning off your computer's internet access. Then, open OneNote. You're still able to access all your notes, right? I think that's because there is a "hidden" local copy of your notebooks.
The question is: where are these notebooks stored on the Mac? I have tried a preliminary quick search in the Library and ~/Library folders and haven't come up with anything. Anyone else know where and how to look?
That's not local, that's cache. There's no way to have some notebooks synced to a cloud storage & have local notebooks.Nor is there a way to import Windows .one files without first uploading to SkyDrive.
