No local file storage for OneNote on Mac version?

I just tried OneNote for a Mac.

I noticed that there is no way to load or save a local OneNote file.

I've been using OneNote on a PC for years. Really like it a lot. Was hoping to

now use it on my Mac.  

I don't know why OneNote is setup this way. I can't even load my existing personal

files from the Mac.  The decision to use a cloud service should be mine and not forced into

it. Even Evernote lets me store locally.

I use it for both personal and work related projects. I cannot put work projects out on

a public cloud repository so this new version is a no go for work. At this point I think

I'll look at Mac equivalents to OneNote and convert to something else.....

Free is great, but I would pay for a fully functional Mac version of OneNote. Please reconsider

local file storage.

Disappointed.

    The reason why a lot of us cannot work 'in the cloud' is for legal reasons / reasons important enough to keep our jobs. I, for one, would love to not break HIPAA, which is a $50,000 mistake on my end and a $500,000 issue for my employer. Also, I would love to share my files w/ out having to use 365 which require external network resources and depend on Microsoft to keep their servers online and functioning. I have known redundancies at multiple locations, and I'm sure MS does as well, but I pay for it I should be able to use it.

    It's ridiculous MS removed USEFUL features. What a joke!

    I have Parallels with Win8 installed for one reason--OneNote 10 with offline, protected notes.

    If the final version of OneNote for Mac does not contain password protected offline notes I will stop using OneNote and move to stop using all Ms Office products.

    More depressing news- I helped a friend install Win 8.1 on her PC this week and guess what? It installed OneNote as part of the package and it too demands you sync with OneDrive!  She didn't have an account set up yet and didn't want to take the time at the moment but she COULD NOT OPEN ANY *.one FILES until she created an account and synced to One Drive.

    so apparently it's not just the Mac version where we will be forced into this very unpleasant arrangement but future PC versions of OneNote too.

    MS-  LISTEN UP.  THIS IS A BAD IDEA. PLEASE STOP AND DO NOT PROCEED DOWN THIS PATH!  YOU HAVE MANY LOYAL ONENOTE USERS WHO THINK ITS THE BEST THING YOU EVER MADE AND SING ITS PRAISES TO ALL WHO WILL LISTEN.  DO YOU REALLY WANT TO **** OFF YOUR MOST DEDICATED FAN BASE?

    Hey Daniel, I have to give it Microsoft that at least there is a REP on the forum.

    But I have to agree with all the other posters.  

    Microsoft as usual, just does not get it!

    They have killed another company they acquired.  Very sad.

    Look if I wanted to collaborate with others I would use google docs.  Perfect works, and is free.

    that is not what one-note was.

    it was a tight little app that lets me keep notes in my own file system.

    it was beautiful for what it did.  

    but as is often the case when a big corp eats a little company, they don't note what it is the users love about it.  only what they *wish* the users wanted.

    and predictably the uses leave.

    sad.

    Same problem - I find there is a Microsoft OneNote file in the Application folder of the Mac.  This functions as if it is the actual OneNote file, but can't be sure.  I was able to copy it into another folder, and it will open.  However, as a standard feature, you cannot create a OneNote file locally, or so it seems to me.
