Stop requesting save changes to document template

Word 2013 insists on asking if I want to save the document template, or in the case of a custom template, save that named template.  I have followed the recommendations for turning this "feature" off, but it persists.  I have unchecked the box labeled "Prompt Before Saving Normal Template**"** in both the normal and the custom templates.  No change.  It still prompts me to save.  I worry that there is something wrong with my installation (Word also hangs if I open a folder and double-click on a document to open it.  I have learned that I can right-click and select "Restore" to get the document to open, but this seems to suggest a problem with the program or the installation).

    I think Rafaloha was referring to a slightly different problem. I was running into the message prompt about saving changes to my template - even though I was using a plain old word file (launched as a new word doc from a a template). I was not trying to change the template in any way, and I definitely was annoyed with a prompt every time I saved my word doc file. 

    At any rate, turning off the bluetooth add-on fixed the problem. I'm not sure why that was throwing a prompt to save template changes on a word file, but it was. I was glad to have found the answer in this thread.

    So, to get things straight, what DOES deal with what's trying to change the normal template, when I'm not actively trying to change it? Do you (or anyone else commenting in this thread, except Suzanne) have any related information that may help with the actual problem?

    Let's put it this way:

    I'm creating a document, based on a template. I'm saving the document I created. I DO NOT want the template to change, as the name suggests, the template is something I'm going to use next time as a base to another document. Thus, it is really not sane to ask if I'd like to save the changes to the template too... Not sane, and even further, annoying to say the least.

    If I would have liked to change the template itself, I would be editing the template. Then, it may be normal for Word to ask me if I would like to change it or not.

    What I think about this, is that Microsoft Office 2013 package is one of the worst implementations or derivations ever existed... So many bugs, so many "changes" and "features" that noone wants. Just like Windows 8, which is miserably failing to provide end-user comfort.

    I couldn't agree more. It's annoying and completely unnecessary. Plus I still haven't found a solution in here. Thank God for Google!

    You have to troubleshoot for poorly designed add-ins, as stated repeatedly in this thread. Follow the steps referring to COM and Startup add-ins in the article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us.

    I did. They are disabled and it still hasn't fixed the problem! I stand by my first statement.
