Stop requesting save changes to document template

So, to get things straight, what DOES deal with what's trying to change the normal template, when I'm not actively trying to change it? Do you (or anyone else commenting in this thread, except Suzanne) have any related information that may help with the actual problem?

Let's put it this way:

I'm creating a document, based on a template. I'm saving the document I created. I DO NOT want the template to change, as the name suggests, the template is something I'm going to use next time as a base to another document. Thus, it is really not sane to ask if I'd like to save the changes to the template too... Not sane, and even further, annoying to say the least.

If I would have liked to change the template itself, I would be editing the template. Then, it may be normal for Word to ask me if I would like to change it or not.

What I think about this, is that Microsoft Office 2013 package is one of the worst implementations or derivations ever existed... So many bugs, so many "changes" and "features" that noone wants. Just like Windows 8, which is miserably failing to provide end-user comfort.

I agree with you re the template changes - why on earth would you want to change a template unless you are actively editing it.

The template you get the warning about is almost always the normal template. It stores your default styles and is the default storage location for recorded macros and keyboard shortcuts. It may hold AutoText or other building blocks. You trying to do any of those may make changes to the normal template. So can malicious or poorly-written code; thus the warning.

By the way, turning off the prompt to save changes simply saves them without asking you. Just as turning off a smoke alarm does nothing about the faulty wiring causing the smoke, turning off the prompt to save changes does not deal with what is trying to change your normal template.

As stated in earlier messages in this thread, many changes that you can make in Word involve templates, even if you haven't explicitly changed the template. That is why you get prompted. Of course, nothing prevents you from turning off the "Prompt to save Normal template" option (but you should carefully consider the potential risks mentioned earlier in this thread).

I solved this by uninstalling the Bluetooth program, which I had no use for.

The answers given here are awful. The fire alarm analogy is stupid. If your fire alarm is put out of work, what's the worst that could happen? A fire goes off, there is no alarm, and your house and perhaps the whole city burns down.

If your Microsoft Word template changes without your knowing it, what's the worst that could happen? Uh, not much, besides the Microsoft Word template changing without your knowing it.

It is my analogy and I think it is apt, if perhaps a little dramatic. The thing is that the template being referred to is the "normal" template in Word. It houses much of what makes the program work the way it does. The message that something is trying to change that is an important one to Word users.

Normal Template

Changes to that template can make Word stop working, or work in very unpredictable and unpleasant ways.

In my business, if Word stops working I may be out of business. I will at least be shut down until I can figure out an alternative. Changes to the normal template by malicious software are real. So are stupid changes made by well-meaning software. I want changes to my normal template to be ones that I know about and approve.

With a smoke detector that keeps going off, I look for the source of the smoke. I do not simply turn the smoke detector off and assume that everything is fine now that the alarm is no longer going off.

With the Word alert, I look for the source of the change if that source is not a deliberate change that I made. You did that - you unistalled the Add-In. You did not, I hope, turn off the alarm.
